Riding the Heber Valley Railroad

When I was little we all called it the Heber Creeper. Now it goes by Heber Valley Railroad, and the scenic ride through Provo Canyon is a fabulous family activity.

All of my kids (except Lily) loved riding the train and had a fabulous time. We joined some of my siblings and their children so there was about twenty five of us riding together.

Here's a few photos from our day. Just a warning- there are lots of pictures :)

The view out the windows was incredible. If you ever get a chance to go, sit on the south side of the train. You get a much better view of the reservoir when you pass it.

I think the highlight was when the train stopped half way and two "bandits" boarded and robbed the train. We didn't know it was part of the ride and the kids were so surprised and excited. They told everyone to put their hands up as they ran around firing blanks in their rifles.

Lily was so terrified to ride the train. She spent the whole two hours curled up in a ball on my lap with her eyes closed.

Occasionally she would peak out of her left eye, lick her sucker, and squeeze her eyes shut again.

The last few minutes of the ride the tracks align with the Provo River and you can hear the water rushing besides the train.

I tired to lure her to look out the window and it worked for about a minute.

And then she was back down again.

Poor thing. I must admit I enjoyed the time snuggling with her. She is such a busy girl it was nice to have her hold still for more than a few minutes!
