Antelope Island

Mr. Wright wanted to go on a road trip with the kids to the west coast during his time off last week.

I wanted to curl up in a cave and hide from all children under the age of three.

I know, I know, we only have one of those. Still, a vacation with her right now brings me to tears.

Seriously, it does.

So we staycationed near home for a few days, and I kept both my dignity and sanity.

The highlight of our vacation near home was Antelope Island State Park. Antelope Island is the largest of nine Islands nestled inside the Great Salt Lake.

In the heat of July it is rare to see any antelope or bison near the water, but we did see a few.

The Island has multiple beaches for swimming but be warned, millions of brine flies live at the waters edge. Once you get in the water they are gone, but if you have two little girls afraid of bugs you won't make it that far. :)

Even though we didn't see too many animals, the insects were everywhere. I have never seen so many spiders and dragon flies in my life!

Also lots and lots of birds. And bird poop. Which apparently is hilarious to talk about over and over again when you are six. (Just ask Evey.)

Despite wearing out the little girls, the family had a great time. My favorite moment was when Matthew reached out to hold Taylor's hand on a hike. When walking or hiking he will grab the hand of whoever is walking next to him.

And I mean whoever.

Not so cute with strangers.

Did I mention he will also hug random people and play with their hair?

That's my boy.

If your visiting or live near Salt lake I would very much recommended going. You can learn more about Antelope Island here.
